As per the responsibilities that RNA owes to society, and in particular children and young individuals, the need to embark on an intervention that seeks to educate and enlightenment children on the subject, suicide was birthed. A suicide awareness and prevention intervention plan was put together for the whole nation, Ghana, with its pilot taking off within the capital city Accra. When Accra is fully covered, other regions will also receive the intervention.
The first school received the intervention with gladness and readiness. The children were so interested in the subject and shared personal experiences that suggested they were so broken at the time and needed a shoulder to lean on. We had sessions and personal interactions with a few students after the general assembly, where we gave them one on one counselling to ster for their emotional needs.
It was not any different with the second school, where teachers and administrative staff ll joined and received well the intervention. As well, individuals sought to have sessions with us, to which we well counselled these individuals who happened to be both teachers and students.
Issues ranged from home and within the schools.
We still have these students from these schools in counselling sessions at no cost at all.
The other sessions with the persons with disabilities were such emotional moments, where these fellows wished they were no more living. They were emotionally broken, and about 85% of them wished they were not existing.
RNA gave the best therapy we could and still have them at sessions at no cost. There’s a lot that could be done for these fellows.
Our vision is to create a world where mental health is a priority and everyone has access to compassionate and effective counseling services
